YMCA Youth Sports

YMCA Youth Sports programs provide children with the opportunity to learn specific sports skills in a supportive atmosphere and are conducted with emphasis on the positive personal growth of the child. The Y strives to balance the development of physical skills with other important aspects of sports, such as leadership, teamwork and cooperation. Above all, kids who participate in YMCA youth sports have a lot of fun! Our philosophy is "Everybody plays, everybody wins".
Focus on Fundamentals:
We focus on the fundamentals of the game. YMCA Youth Sports is a progressive program, with multiple levels of play where every child gets to participate. Our games are safe, exciting and fun. We encourage positive competition, family involvement and even strive to match children of similar abilities. And we never forget that this program is for the kids, so we let them enjoy themselves. We combine the YMCA’s philosophy of fair play, teamwork and inclusiveness. Sports offer a great opportunity to teach values like caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, and help improve self-esteem.
Winning Isn't Everything:
YMCA Youth Sports doesn’t remove competition from the sport; it just puts it in the proper perspective. Winning is important, but so is having fun, participating, learning new skills and learning to respect officials, coaches and the other team players. Parents are encouraged to participate as coaches, officials and in other capacities in addition to lending support to their participating child.
Youth sports programs include basketball, volleyball and itty bitty spots. For more information contact:

Coaches Wanted!
Each season, the YMCA invites volunteers to help coach youth sports teams. You don’t need to be an expert. YMCA staff will show you what you need to know. By volunteering, you are giving children the chance to learn new skills and sportsmanship, values they will carry with them throughout their lives. Call the Youth Sports Department at 361-882-1741 to learn more.
